Hardware Test Automation Engineer
We’re looking for a Hardware Test Automation Engineer to join our team to help develop and maintain automated systems that validate our hardware products. With experience in test equipment, scripting, and embedded systems, you'll ensure our products are reliable, high-performing, and ready to scale.

Yoto’s Hardware Team
We are a small team with a lot of experience and passion for developing connected consumer audio products, taking them from concept through to mass production. We work closely with our internal embedded OS development and product teams, key third party suppliers and our design and manufacturing partners. We are focused on designing reliable, easy to use, innovative and fun products using the latest technologies.
What you’ll be doing:
- Design and implement automated test setups for both board-level and system-level hardware validation.
- Develop test scripts and frameworks to carry out regression, performance, and functional testing of hardware and embedded systems.
- Integrate lab equipment - including oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, and data acquisition systems - into automated test workflows.
- Work closely with hardware, firmware, and software teams to define test requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Support automated testing of key product features such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, audio, sensors, displays, power management, battery and charging circuits.
- Analyse test results, identify root causes of failures, and support troubleshooting and resolution.
- Maintain clear documentation of test plans, procedures and outcomes.
- Help improve our test infrastructure and processes on an ongoing basis.
- Contribute to the development of factory test and bring-up automation when needed.
What you’ll bring:
- A degree (or equivalent experience) in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in hardware validation or test automation, ideally in consumer electronics or a similar industry.
- Proficiency in test automation using Python/Python Qt or similar scripting languages.
- Hands-on experience operating and scripting control for lab instruments (oscilloscopes, logic analysers, power meters, etc.).
- Practical skills in soldering, wiring, and basic jig fabrication.
- A good understanding of digital and analogue circuits.
- Familiarity with embedded systems and microcontroller interfaces (e.g. UART, I2C, SPI, GPIO).
- Experience with version control tools (e.g. Git) and test result tracking.
- Strong analytical skills, clear communication, and a collaborative approach.
- A proactive, detail-oriented mindset with the ability to manage priorities and drive tasks independently in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have:
Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or system-level automation platforms.
Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, or other test software tools.
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and hardware test integration (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI).
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 based on experience. We never want to miss out on great candidates, so don’t let our banding put you off reaching out - there’s sometimes flexibility for the right fit!

- Flexibility: Hybrid working with a choice based approach - we would love you to come into the office as much as possible, with a minimum of once a week, ideally 2-3 times a week for this specific role. Take advantage of our ‘work from anywhere’ policy to work from a different location for up to 6 weeks every year. Summer Hours policy to use between the months of June and August.
